Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) that people ask about the work I do.  If I have not answered your questions below then get in contact and we do my best to help.

Here are the top questions that I am asked:

What is NLP

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) was developed from the study of high performance, people who made a change and cope with challenges most effectively.  Neuro-linguistic programming is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy which was co-created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, in the United States in the ’70s.

NLP helps us break down how we construct the world around us as opposed to what we say about it. NLP can be very effective to help people for example who have bounced around a range of services for support with little or no results.   For example, think of a memory, you will either remember that memory as pictures/images, sounds/audio, feelings or a combination of more than one, this is a simplified explanation for the purpose of this page, as you do not need to know all the ins and outs of NLP to get results, that’s my job to know what will be most effective for you.

NLP is a collection of effective techniques that help people get results fast!

What is Hypnotherapy?

Have you ever arrived after a car journey and not paid attention to most of the trip, you kind of arrive at your destination or realise that you had drifted away into a daydream while still safely driving. That daydream state is similar to the state that you go into when in hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is basically about being helped through a guided process to get into a very deep relaxation and tap into your subconscious mind to help you make changes at a deeper level than you would do if, for example, you consciously talk about a problem over and over again (which for many of us has not resulted in change).

As a hypnotherapist, I help you get quickly into a relaxed state, where we work together to come up with new and healthy ways for you to get the positive intention of your current negative behavior.   You might, for example, know that smoking is not for you anymore, you throw a packet out, ‘just one more cigarette/packet and I will stop’.  You consciously know that it stinks, or feel guilty, or avoid certain situations, ‘that it’s killing me’… but no matter how much you rationalise, you just don’t seem to be able to kick it.  I work on the route cause of being a smoker, instead of make you no longer want to smoke, we remove the need to smoke.

So, hypnotherapy works at a deeper level, taps into that sub-conscious and helps you gain sub-conscious shifts that lead to you acting out the need for whatever that old behavior gave you as a benefit, in a new and healthy way.

Can anybody have hypnotherapy?

You will only do something in hypnotherapy that you deep down are willing and want to do.  So, if you want help to make changes and are willing to sit down, listen, breath and follow my instruction you will get results.

Can this help young people or children?

Yes, I work with children/young people with anything that I would support adults for.  The work is developed in conjunction with the parents to come up with a solution that suitable and age appropriate.

I have over 15 years experience in working with Children/Young People and have a full disclosure through the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) Scheme for your peace of mind.  I’m also qualified and experienced in Community Education and Youth Work.

There are specific techniques that I use to help children tap into their very clever imaginations, I use story and things that your child can relate to.  I also know a pool of other experienced colleagues if for example, you would like a female.  Example of working with children is on fears and phobias that are affecting your child’s enjoyment of life.  Anxiety in children often comes from the way the poor wee things have learned to think about a challange, its pretty amazing to see them shift and the look on their faces when they no longer need to worry about that thing anymore.

Where do the sessions take place?

I have an office space in Glasgow City Centre which we can book in advance if that is suits you best.  I also have access to rooms in Salons and clinics across the West of Scotland where we can book in advance.  I can come to your home or place of work anywhere across Scotland.  If you have specific needs around travel, I can also travel across Scotland, the UK and internationally.  The majority of my sessions are face-to-face, however, we I work with clients via video call (e.g. Skype, google hangouts or facetime).  I have private and business clients across the UK and internationally, all with very different demands on their time, for example company Directors who lead very busy lives and I need to be flexible around their needs when it comes to location and times.   I have musicians and people who do public speaking, where I meet up with clients on site, at a venue and even at music events.

How Much does it costs?

The costs are in line with sector standards, that said, they vary depending on the intervention, number of sessions and how long we are going to work together.

This can be discussed when we have our initial consultation and I can answer any further questions that you may have.  I have been trained by some of the top coaches in the country and gain mentoring from some of the best… the skills I have gained costs money and I am building a sustainable practice so that I can help more people over many years.

The costs vary between £45 to £95 per hour.

Can you help me even though my issues are ‘deep routed’ or ‘I’ve had this a long time’?

I am coming from a place that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can change, quickly with the right support.  I am there for clients to make sure they get the support that they need while things are changing.  So, some issues that people present take longer than others, but the best approach is to have our first sessions and see how we get on.  One example is where someone has had an issue since she was a small child, a ‘real phobia of spiders’, within two sessions she has no fear and is able to pick one up.

One client had a ‘crippling fear of exams’ and she went on to pass her exams with flying colours after one NLP session.

My advice is, if you are at the stage where you have had enough and want it to change, then I can help you get to it fast and help you make it last.
